Gift Card Terms and Fraud Prevention Policy
These draft terms are designed for an online nail salon gift card checkout and redemption flow. They are intended to reduce refund abuse, friendly fraud, and chargeback risk for digital gift cards, which are commonly targeted because they can be redeemed quickly and later disputed.
Checkout Consent
By purchasing a gift card, the customer agrees to the Gift Card Terms, Refund Policy, and Fraud Prevention Verification Policy. Gift card purchases are final sale and are not refundable except where required by law.
The purchaser acknowledges that identity and payment verification may be required before a gift card is issued, delivered, or redeemed. The salon may delay, cancel, or refuse any gift card transaction that appears suspicious, inconsistent, unauthorized, or connected to possible fraud.
Gift Card Purchase Terms
Gift cards are sold in digital form for use toward eligible salon services and products offered by the salon. Risk is higher for online gift cards because they are card-not-present transactions, so the salon may apply additional screening, spending limits, or manual review to high-risk orders.
The purchaser is responsible for providing accurate recipient information, including name, email address, and phone number if requested. The salon may keep order records, IP address data, device information, timestamps, and communications relating to the transaction for fraud prevention and dispute response purposes.
Redemption Rules
A gift card must be presented or identified at the time of booking or payment. The salon may require matching booking details, recipient information, confirmation messages, government-issued identification, or other reasonable verification before accepting the gift card for redemption.
Once a gift card is redeemed in full or in part, the related transaction is considered fulfilled to the extent of that redemption. After services have been provided or gift card value has been used, the purchase may not be reversed or refunded except where required by law.
If the purchaser bought the gift card for another person, the purchaser accepts responsibility for authorizing that recipient to use it. The salon is not responsible for disputes arising from gifts, transfers, shared access, or unauthorized sharing of gift card details after delivery to the purchaser or designated recipient.
Refunds and Expiry
Gift card purchases are final once the digital gift card has been delivered, except where required by law or approved by Sugar Nail Bar.
Refunds, when approved, will be returned only to the original payment method used for purchase.
Gift cards cannot be refunded to cash
If a gift card order appears suspicious before redemption, Sugar Nail Bar may cancel the order and refund the original payment method.
Fraud Prevention Verification Policy
To reduce fraud, the salon reserves the right to verify the identity of the purchaser, cardholder, and recipient before issuing or redeeming a gift card. Verification methods may include matching the name on the booking, confirming the last four digits of the purchasing card when lawful and appropriate, reviewing billing and contact information, sending confirmation by email or SMS, checking suspicious order patterns, or requesting photo identification at the salon.
The salon may suspend, cancel, or refuse redemption of any gift card where there is a reasonable concern about fraud, chargeback abuse, payment reversal risk, identity mismatch, unusual purchasing behavior, or unauthorized use. These controls are a common fraud prevention measure for gift card transactions and help create documentation for dispute responses.
Chargebacks and Disputes
If a chargeback, payment dispute, or claim is filed regarding a gift card purchase after the gift card has been redeemed in full or in part, the salon may rely on order logs, checkout acceptance records, customer communications, booking details, redemption records, service notes, and any verification materials collected during purchase or redemption to contest the dispute.
Where permitted by law, filing a payment dispute after authorized redemption or after services have been received may be treated as a misuse of the payment system or a false claim. The salon reserves all rights to deny future purchases, deny future bookings, and pursue recovery of amounts lost through fraudulent or abusive chargebacks.

Use this statement at checkout:
I agree to the Gift Card Terms, Refund Policy, and Fraud Prevention Verification Policy. I understand that gift card purchases are final sale, may require identity verification before issuance or redemption, and cannot be reversed or refunded after use except where required by law.
Implementation Notes
For stronger chargeback evidence, the checkout flow should capture the acceptance timestamp, IP address, purchaser contact details, gift card number, redemption date, booking linked to redemption, and staff notes confirming the service was provided. Stripe highlights the importance of keeping clear records when accepting gift cards, and fraud guidance for gift cards consistently recommends layered verification and strong transaction logs.
